In regards to Chapter 15, do you feel Atticus Finch is being brave in his defense of Tom Robinson, or is he simply doing his job as a public defender? Be sure to make explicit the criteria you are using in the creation of a response that reflects evidence-based argumentation.
I think Atticus is a brave man because he's a white man defending a black man and back in that time people really didn't care for black people...I also think Atticus is brave because on page 101 is states that "Not only a Finch waiting on tables but one in the courthouse lawing for niggers" and also on page 102 it also states "Your fathers no better than the niggers and trash he works for!" So to me Atticus is a brave man for defending Tom Robinson even though he was talked about during the process it didn't matter to him he thought it was the right thing to do...
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I really like the beginning of your response. how you combine the time in the 1930's when it was segregation, and Atticus is white defending a black person together to create a response.
DeleteI agree with you because in Maycomb blacks barely had rights so to have a white men defend a black men that's shows a lot of cockiness and bravery and it shows that he is fair.
DeleteSo what about the fact that his job is to be a public defender, to defend those who are accused who don't have the financial means to hire an attorney of their own choosing?
DeleteI feel that Atticus is a brave man. In the text it says "Go home, Jem he said, take Scout and Dill home"(pg.203) This tells me that Atticus and his family are at risk of getting hurt, but he chooses to tell them to go home, and he stay. Generally speaking if people were about to fight people would tend to leave but Atticus tries to make his family go home, and he stays. Atticus already knows the odds are against at winning the case for Tom Robinson, but he still tends to do the right thing and help Tom Robinson. He is brave enough to accept the case of helping Tom Robinson knowing that he neighborhood would judge in a negative way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Josh. Lots of people had the same evidence as you but I didn't but I still understand where you are coming from because we share the same idea
DeleteAtticus is brave for defending Tom Roberson. He took this case despite what people would say and feel about what he was doing. He never questioned his decision because he knew he was doing the right thing. Atticus knows that him taking this case means that he will have to deal with the remarks people make and he also knew that his kids, Jem and Scout would feel the wrath from other who disagrees with Atticus decision to defend a black man. Atticus refused to let this case slip by him even though he knew odds were not on his side. That's bravery in it self because he knew this man was not guilty, he wanted to prove this mans innocents. In The text it sates "He had announced in the schoolyard the day before that Scout Finch’s daddy defended niggers" (77) Cecil said this and this is what Jem and scout had to deal with at school. In The Text it also states " I overheard Atticus telling jack that Tom is innocent but doomed" This is bravery because he's fighting for a mans freedom and he knows that because he's black nobody will believe him.
ReplyDeleteAttitus Finch is brave for defending Tom Robinson. In the text it stated ( On pg. 102) " Your fathers not no better than the niggers and trash he work for." People in Maycomb doesn't respect blacks. Attitus actions show that he treat blacks & whites with equal rights. Attitus doesn't judge nobody by their color. In the text it stated (On pg.102) " Your daddy was a disgrace an' that nigger oughta hang from the water tank." Attitus is brave because he give blacks equal opportunity without saying they guilty because of their color.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Atticus is a brave man. Because in the story it says "go home, Jem," he said. " take Scout and Dill home." This made me fill that he wants to protect his family from any danger so he tells them to leave. Usually when a person is in great danger they would go into any means to make sure that there family is safe. Is wants me to believe that he is a brave man because no one in the town want to defend Tom Robinson because of his skin color and his charges. So Atticus was brave and step up even knowing that he would be putting his family in great danger and defended Tom Robinson. Even though he didn't win the case he was still was brave because he tried unlike other folks.
ReplyDeleteI believe he is a brave man too even though I never thought of what happening in Chapter 15 to be evidence. I now see that it is
DeleteI agree with you because Attitus is brave for he step up for what he believe in
DeleteI agree with you and I like your CER chain
DeleteI think that Atticus is being a brave man because in the text it states that Jem was afraid that Atticus would get hurt for defending Tom Robinson(a nigger) in court, but Atticus on the other hand showed no fear.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Angel. I never thought of what Jem said as evidence but I get it now.
DeleteI would consider Atticus to be brave and not just doing his job. I would say he is brave because he chose to defend Tom Robinson. Not only is it the right thing to do but it's also in Atticus's nature. With some lawyers if they don't like you they won't defend you but since there was segregation and Tom Robinson is black you would expect a white person to not want to defend him. But Atticus is not just any whites person. Atticus chose to defend Tom Robinson knowing he was black and people was going to talk, but he didn't care. In chapter 11 on page 135 Mrs. Dubose says "You father is no better than the niggers and trash he works for." And even after she said all of that he still respected her and called her a lady.
ReplyDeleteI agree because he give blacks and whites equal rights
DeleteI Agree with You Thomesha because why would a white men want to defend a black men but I feel like he trying to show them that they are equal no matter what color you is

ReplyDeleteI Feel Atticus is brave in his defense of Tom Robinson Because he know this case is very serious. He Don't Care What people say about him cause he taking up for a white black men, he still take up for him no matter what. He was called a lot of name like nigga-lover and stop like that but that did not stop him. People was coming to him and about that but he did not give up. Atticus feel he doing the right thing about defending Tom Robinson. Atticus is brave because he defend Tom Robinson and he know that other people will have something say.
I agree because Attitus is brave because he don't care what people think of him because he a " nigger lover "
DeleteI agree because I had the same thing. Atticus is defending Tom knowing that people was going to have something to say.
DeleteI think Atticus is be ping brave.
ReplyDeleteI think Atticus is brave because even though it's his job he takes it seriously and he treats the case like all other cases. In the story even though everyone was say what Atticus was doing was a bad thing he himself didn't think so, he was still fair and defended Tom Robinson the right way. He knew that defending him was going to create commotion within the town and commotion with the race. By defending Tom Robinson Atticus put his reputation on the line as a good lawyer and this is why Atticus could be considered Brave.
I agree because he stand up for blacks & whites. Also, Attitus is not prejudice

ReplyDeleteI think Atticus Finch is being brave in his defense of Tom Robinson because if you think about it color wise Tom Robinson is black but on the other hand Atticus is nice and fair he wanted to treat everyone equally not even worry about their color of their skin. I think that Atticus could be a person that will defend whoever he think that need to be defend because sometimes people need that one person that always on their side no matter what goes down. It's brave to me because he got a fair mind and he give everyone a change and it's something that no one will thought of doing. Then if you think about it in Maycomb blacks wasn't treat it with equal rights so that's show bravery if you basically defending a Black men which makes me believe that he bravery.
Atticus is a brave man cause when he believe in something he goes for it. and like the other people in his town believe that Tom Robinson is guilty all cause he black and Atticus didn't care what color he is but he just know right from wrong so he is also brave cause he is showing a great role model for his kids by teaching them don't hate someone for their color by Alexis woodfork -bey
ReplyDeleteI agree with you because doesn't judge people on their skin color

ReplyDeleteI think Atticus is being brave man by defending Tom Robinson. He's being brave because he is defending a black person. Especially in the 1930s. The white people in Maycomb are already spreading rumors about him.
In the text it says, "Cecil Jacobs made me forget. He had announced in the schoolyard the day before that Scout Finch's daddy defends niggers. I denied it, but told Jem. 'Do you defend niggers, Atticus?' 'Of course I do. Don't say nigger, Scout. That's common.'"
Generally speaking, if you lived back in the 1930s, in a white community, and you defend a "nigger", of course you are going to be judged because they were racist. Atticus was brave for even telling scout that he defends a nigger.
